Perks of being a Wallflower

In the book, the perks of being a wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, teenagers are represented in
many ways. Charlie, the main character, is a typical teenage kid starting high school and has many teenage related issues. He also wants many more things now that he is growing up. He is much more interested in girls and also has emotional issues. Another teenage trait is that he always speaks his mind, sometimes without great judgement.
Charlie represents a teenager in many ways, including his interest in girls. Charlie met a girl named Sam, and soon became very interested in her.  "I would really like to ask her on a date someday. I really would. She is so nice." Even though he is way too young for Sam, Charlie is very stubborn which is typical for teenagers. He even told Sam about his feelings for her.
Another way Charlie represents a typical teenager is that he is a very emotional person. When he got into a fight with a kid and beat him up he started crying, even though he was the victor. "I'm the one who beat up sean and couldn't stop crying after. I guess i'm pretty emotional."
Charlie also speaks whatever is on his mind a lot, which is not unusual for teen. Sometimes his judgement is not good and he says thing he should have kept to himself. For example, for some strange reason Charlie told his English teacher about how is sister's boyfriend hit her once, and she told him to keep it a secret. His teacher was probably not the right person he should of told. Overall, Charlie in the perks of being a wallflower, represents a regular teenager.

  1. I agree with what you are saying, that Charlie in many ways represents a typical teenager, but he can also be very unusual in how he behaves. For example, most normal teens wouldn't tell an older girl how they feel about her right away, and most adolescents definitely wouldn't tell Sam that they had a dream about her.
